The Beginning of Qalby

With every journey, there is a goal and with every goal, there is an intention, the foundation with which an action is carried out and what we will be judged on.

The intention for Qalby App, is to call to the beauty of Islam and to cultivate the love of the Quran, Sunnah and Iman in our hearts, to spread this love across the globe, to every heart and every hand and to be a companion who helps us along our own unique journey towards Allah and in living a muslim lifestyle. Ultimately QalbyApp exists to please our Maker and to earn Eternal Rewards in the Here-after.

How was it inspired?

Qalby App was inspired by a Ta’leem Al-Quran diploma program I signed up for with Al-Huda Institute at the beginning of 2018.

I was inspired to share the knowledge I learnt and to do it in a way that was cool, fresh and could reach the world. As a student of the quran, I relied heavily on books and apps to help me study, that was when I had the idea of coming up with my own app that could assist.

Initially a friend of mind advised me to go and join another Islamic app, and to add to it, but I still wanted to have my own curated App with trusted sources from the Quran and Sunnah, and so I scouted around to find the perfect partner and team.

After making lots of dua, I shared my idea with a friend of mine, Nadya, good to see if she would be interested in developing this app with me, as my partner. She was already developing another app and I could see the passion and excitement in her eyes, I knew she was the right one to approach. I trusted her talents and loved her business ethics. Alhamdulilah she said yes and here we are today!

January 2019, Nadya and I were in Makkah together and performed our umrah around the same time with our families Alhamdulilah. Upon our return, we started getting serious in planning the road map and blueprint of what you see on QALBY app today.

July 2019 was when we pitched to our investor and in October, we launched our social media platforms.

Why launch social media before the app was even ready? Because we wanted to start seeding people about QALBY, that our main mission is to do da’wah, share knowledge and to keep people engaged and interested in the Deen.

How do I come with the name qalby?

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) as saying:

Verily Allah does not look to your faces and your wealth but He looks to your heart and to your deeds. (Sahih Muslim)

I was fascinated with a subject I had attended in my diploma program called Husnul Khuluq, which means Good Character. In this subject, we learn about good and bad characteristics, about the heart, its functions, it’s purpose, it’s diseases and cures. Living in the world today there is much need of introspection as we are so focused on the outer, materialistic, tangible exteriors.

We live in a world that is so fast paced, we don’t take the time to slow down and reflect upon ourselves, the state of our spirituality and our hearts. That is why I was inspired to have the name “Qalby”’ which means, “My Heart”, because that is what matters most and it is where Iman and Taqwa live.
